SEPTEMBER 11th, 2001
September 11th, 2001...One of the worst days in American history.  It is very hard for me write anything at all
about it because I get very emotional.  So I will probably keep this short.
I remember this day like it was yesterday.  I remember exact quotes.  I was outside powerwashing the fence in my
yard. I was using a cleaner that you had to leave on for no more than 20 minutes or it could ruin the fence. My
Mother-in-law came by and said, "A plane crashed into the World Trade Center!" I remember thinking..."Wow
that's weird...I wonder what happened." I figured it was a little 2 seater or something. Not thinking it was any big
deal I kept power washing the fence. She comes by again 15 minutes later or so. "Another plane just crashed in to
the World Trade Center," she said. I figured she was crazy....how could two planes hit the World Trade Center in
the same day? I figured she had heard the news story again and assumed it happened again. I continued
powerwashing.....I had to get the cleaner off.  Another few minutes goes by and she comes by again. I can still
hear her exact words......"A plane just hit the Pentagon, we are under attack!" Honestly, at this point, I'm thinking,
"What the (heck) is going on?"  I'm still thinking she's crazy. "Yeah sure. Who's attacking us? Russia? Come on."
I decide to go in to my house and find out what is "really" going on. I'm on my way in to my house.....she comes
by again......"Part of the World Trade Center collapsed....just the upper floors though." Again I thought, "What the
(heck) is going on?" Seeing a fear in her eye....It finally hit me that something was really going on and it wasn't her
blowing things out of proportion. I went inside to see replays of the first Tower collapsing. "Holy S**t!!!" "It's
gone." (Sorry for the curse but that was my exact thoughts) I remember sitting there watching the t.v. and only
seeing one tower. How strange that was to me. I used to live in NYC. I was in the towers a lot. I couldn't
comprehend that only one tower was there. My wife called on the phone...."What is going on?" she asked. I
somehow blurted out, " It's gone!" She said, "What is?" I replied, "The World Trade Center...it's gone." She
asked, "What do you mean it's gone?" I replied again, "It's just gone....there's only one....it's gone." (I am starting
to cry as I type this) She came home. I told her to watch the replay of the tower collapsing...they kept playing it
every few minutes. It came on again....Only this time when it was done falling....there was no towers left standing. I
had just witnessed the second tower coming down and thought it was a replay of the first one. "They're both
gone....they're both gone."
There was a plane down in a Pennsylvania field.  Turns out that a group of Americans, I will NOT call them
ordinary Americans....they were extraordinary Americans, decided to attack our attackers.  They brought that
plane down and everyone aboard was killed.  However, they saved countless lives in Washington D.C.
There were all kinds of scary rumors that day.  No one knew what was going on.  How many more planes are
there.  There were all kinds of bomb scares.  There were reports of other buildings being hit.  The World came to
a standstill that day.  I would make the assumption that there were more people watching t.v. that day than at any
other moment in television history.
I remember how angry I was when I saw the tapes of people jumping out of the upper floors of the World Trade
Center buildings.  Imagine the horror going on that your best alternative is to jump out of a 100 story window to
your certain death.  Today this is the image that most upsets me.  A group of evil, hateful animals caused several of
my fellow Americans to jump out of a 100 story window as their best option.  I can not forget this, nor do I want
to.
The next several days seems to be a blur...I sat in front of the t.v. for I don't know how many days.  The faces of
the people looking for their loved ones....the billboards of pictures of missing people....the outpouring of care and
compassion for our fellow Americans....people dropping everything in their lives and going to New York City to
help dig through the rubble or to bring food to the search teams....It was amazing.  I saw the BEST of this country
in the aftermath of one of the worst days we had ever seen.  We had come together as a country....white, black,
rich, poor, Democrat, Republican, Northerners, Southerners....there was none of that.  There was only Americans.
Overtime people have forgotten those feelings.  They have forgotten what we are fighting for.  So I say click on
the link below.  Turn on your speakers and watch.  Watch the whole thing.  Yes it is painful.  It should be.  Watch
it.  Remember that day and never forget what happened.
