THE RIGHT BROTHERS INTERVIEW
I first heard of The Right Brothers when a friend of mine sent me
a link to their video for the song "Bush Was Right."  I was
instantly hooked.  I found a few more songs by The Right
Brothers and enjoyed them all.  The songs each have very
different styles.  Their songs are all conservative or have
conservative themes.  The great thing is....the songs are all
actually really good!  Obviously, I like the lyrics and the ideas
behind the songs, but the songs themselves are all very well
done.  They are proud conservatives and will not play a gig
unless it is billed as a conservative music show.  They were kind
enough to sit down and answer a few questions for
ProudConservative.com and it's readers.  I definitely
recommend checking out their sites.  You can download their
music and you can order other products as well at
www.TheRightBrothers.com and they are on MySpace at
www.myspace.com/therightbrothers.  Now on to the interview.
NAMES AND AGES:
Frank Highland - 39
Aaron Sain - 43

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER AS THE RIGHT BROTHERS?
Frank:  3 years

WHERE YOU IN ANY BANDS BEFORE THE RIGHT BROTHERS?
Frank: No
Aaron:  Just cover bands in H.S.and College.

WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED PLAYING TOGETHER, WAS THE ORIGINAL PLAN TO BE A
CONSERVATIVE BAND OR DID THAT JUST HAPPEN BY CHANCE? IN OTHER WORDS, DID
YOU WRITE NON-CONSERVATIVE AND NON-POLITICAL SONGS BEFORE THE
CONSERVATIVE ONES?
Frank:  Yes. We were both writers on Music Row here in Nashville. Wound up writing the conservative stuff by
chance.
Aaron:  We used to write country and pop/rock stuff for a living and being consumed with all things conservative it
was inevitable that the political would take over.

HAVE YOU ALWAYS CONSIDERED YOURSELVES CONSERVATIVES?
Frank:  Yes
Aaron:  Absolutely – we get it from our parents.

WHEN I LISTEN TO DIFFERENT SONGS, THE STYLES OF THE SONGS VARY GREATLY.
SOME SOUND ROCK N ROLL. SOME SOUND COUNTRY. SOME SOUND POP. WHO ARE
YOUR MUSICAL INSPIRATIONS?
Frank  My inspirations are all over the board from Merle Haggard to Bon Jovi. But being writers on the row we
had to learn to write different styles of music so we studied all kinds.
Aaron:  Frank and I have different musical interests typically and that shapes our sound quite a bit. Frank tends to
lean to the softer rock and I have quite the head-banging background. I am one of the biggest KISS fans to ever
live.

ONE OF THE THINGS I LIKE ABOUT YOU GUYS IS THAT YOU ARE UPFRONT ABOUT WHAT
YOUR MUSIC IS ABOUT. YOU KNOW SOME OF THESE MUSICIANS GET YOU TO BUY
TICKETS TO THEIR CONCERT OR SHOW TO HEAR THEIR MUSIC AND INSTEAD THEY
SPOUT THEIR POLITICAL VIEWS DURING THEIR SHOWS. PEOPLE KNOW WHAT THEY
ARE GETTING WHEN THEY COME TO SEE YOU GUYS PLAY. IT’S NOT A BAIT AND SWITCH
THING GOING ON. YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT?
Frank:  We hate that. We won’t play a venue unless it’s billed as politically conservative music. We don’t want
anyone showing up and being surprised.
Aaron:  We have turned down gigs because they wouldn’t bill us as Conservative. People deserve to know what
they’re paying for.

“BUSH WAS RIGHT” WAS THE FIRST SONG I HEARD FROM THE RIGHT BROTHERS. DO
YOU CONSIDER THAT YOUR BREAKOUT SONG?
Frank:  Definitely. The success of that song inspired us to write “No Apologies” completely pop punk.
Aaron:  Sure. It is a definite “love it or hate it” kind of song. You should see the mail we got from libs in response
to that. And while we disagree with the president on some issues like “immigration” for example, that points made
in that song are still as true as the day the song was written.

CONSERVATIVES HAVE DIFFERENT ISSUES THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO THEM. WHAT
ISSUES ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU AS A CONSERVATIVES?
Frank:  Less Government. Adoption not abortion. Low Taxes. Freedom of religion and speech. The right to bear
arms. The war against Islamic fascist.
Aaron:  Border security, abortion, smaller government, separation of church and state (the misconception of what
the founding fathers meant.)

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU NAMED SEVERAL SO-CALLED REPUBLICANS
IN “THE LIST.” HAVE YOU GOTTEN ANY BACKLASH FROM ANY MCCAIN SUPPORTERS
OR ANY OF THE OTHER RINOS’ SUPPORTERS? AND ON A SIDE NOTE, BEING FROM
CONNECTICUT, I WAS THRILLED THAT CHRISTOPHER SHAYS WAS ON THAT LIST.
Frank:  Not backlash really. We've had some people ask why is McCain on the list. All I can say is we did our
homework on him. They need to do theirs.
Aaron:  Not really. Glad you agree. We are Americans first, Conservatives second and Republicans third.

DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITES OUT OF THE CANDIDATES THAT HAVE ANNOUNCED SO
FAR FOR THE 2008 REPUBLICAN NOMINATION? IS THERE ANYONE YOU WOULD LIKE TO
SEE ENTER THE RACE?
Frank:  I like Rudy, Romney, and Newt. I’d like to see Fred Thompson get in.
Aaron:  Run, Fred, run!! He is so Reagan-like.

HOW DO YOU WRITE YOUR SONGS? FOR INSTANCE, TAKE A SONG LIKE “I’M IN LOVE
WITH ANN COULTER.“ IS A SONG LIKE THAT WRITTEN BECAUSE YOU WERE ONE DAY
WATCHING HER ON THE T.V. AND SHE SAID SOMETHING BRILLIANT AND ONE YOU
SAYS, “MAN…I’M IN LOVE WITH ANN COULTER!“ AND THEN THE LIGHT BULB GOES
ON? OR IS IT MORE OF A THOUGHT OUT PROCESS WHERE YOU WERE THINKING,
“HMMMM WE NEED ANOTHER TRACK. ANN COULTER IS REALLY COOL. WE SHOULD
WRITE A SONG ABOUT HER?“
Frank:  She was on the Leno show last year and she was awesome. We we’re watching her in our hotel room in
California. Leno asked her what kind of men she liked and she said Conservative men. I was hooked. We don’t
sit and say we need to write a song about this or that. The songs just kind of come out depending on what the hot
button issue of the day is. We also do a lot of independent research on the net to make sure we have our facts
right. We don’t just take any one persons word for it.
Aaron:  We are consumed with “all things conservative” so the song topics are so obvious. We are constantly
updating our “we’ve got to write that!” list.

ARE YOU GUYS LIKE THE REST OF US POLITICAL JUNKIES? DO YOU WATCH NEWS
CONSTANTLY AND LISTEN TO TALK RADIO?
Frank:  Yes. Rush and Hannity.
Aaron:  Every chance I get. I am a huge Andrew Wilkow fan. (Wilkow Majority on Sirius Satellite)

HAVE YOU EVER HEARD FROM A TEACHER, EITHER IN A POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE WAY,
ABOUT THE SONG “SHUT UP AND TEACH?” ….BY THE WAY ANOTHER ONE OF MY
FAVORITES.
Frank:  I don’t recall any teachers but we get a lot of students telling us about how the song describes their
America hating teacher.
Aaron:  We hear from students all the time. It’s amazing how many kids have adopted that as their theme song so
to speak.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE SONGS FROM THE RIGHT BROTHERS COLLECTION?
Frank:  It changes from time to time but right now my favorite is Enemy Within. Sleeper cells are in the news.
Aaron:  Enemy Within is a very fun song to play on the guitar as well as Overruled.

WHAT IS THE COOLEST THING ABOUT BEING IN THE RIGHT BROTHERS?
Frank:  Well as far as we know we are the only truly 100% political band in the world that slants to the hard
conservative right.
Aaron:  I wouldn’t consider ourselves visionaries or anything but it sure is fun to be the only band out there doing
this.

ANYTHING YOU WANT TO PLUG?
Frank:    www.therightbrothers.com

WHAT IS ONE QUESTION YOU WERE HOPING THAT I’D ASK THAT I DIDN’T ASK? NOW
GO AHEAD AND ANSWER THAT QUESTION.
Aaron:  A lot of people ask where the name came from. It was a fluke actually. Our very first interview came
before we had a name and the host asked us what we were called and it just came out, “The Right Brothers” – he
loved it and we went with it.

O.K. ON TO 10 QUICK FUN QUESTIONS:

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP FIVE BANDS OF ALL TIME?
Frank:  The Eagles, KISS, The Beatles, Bon Jovi,.Alvin and the Chipmunks...You did say fun questions right?
Aaron:   KISS, Dragonforce, Pretty much every 80’s hair band, Celtic Woman and Bixler

Hunter) and last but not least “Citizen Kane” Starring Orson Wells.
Aaron:  Off the top of my head…Forrest Gump, Lord of the Rings, Remember the Titans, Christmas Vacation,

Frank:  Write political songs.
Aaron:  Play with my kids, hang out with my wife and I love to record neo-classical metal songs with no purpose
whatsoever.

IF YOU HAD TO BE ON ANY REALITY TV SHOW, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
Frank:  Sorry but I don’t watch ‘em.
Aaron:  Ninja Warrior if they had a “regular guy” edition.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT?
Frank:  Famous Dave’s Barbecue
Aaron:  J. Alexander’s

HOBBIES?
Frank:  Song writing. Inventing things. I've invented a swimming pool net with a brush on it called the “brush-n-
grab” and it has been produced by a major pool accessories manufacturer. I have other ideas in the works.
Aaron:  Tennis, Frisbee golf, graphic design

DO YOU ENJOY WATCHING OR PLAYING ANY SPORTS?
Frank:  I love watching football and playing basketball.
Aaron:  Love to play Tennis and watch football and tennis or anything in HD!

WHAT IS THE BEST GIFT YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED?
Frank:  God’s grace.
Aaron:  I hate to copy Frank but yes, God’s grace. If you mean materially it would have to be the Baby Taylor
acoustic guitar my family got me for my birthday a few years back.

IF YOU COULD PICK ANY JOB OTHER THAN A MUSICIAN, WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
Frank:  Probably a Marine Biologist.
Aaron:  Anything creative.

TELL US SOMETHING VERY FEW PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THE RIGHT BROTHERS:
Frank:  We get asked all the time if we are really brothers. We’re not.
Aaron:  We are not brothers. But we are right.
