IT'S 2006. STAY INFORMED...STAY INVOLVED.
It's 2006. It's an election year. With all of our everyday concerns, it is easy to ignore the political process. I know I am busy. My son has hockey practice. My daughter has gymnastics. Is their homework done? What are we having for dinner? What groceries do we need? Did I pay all of my bills yet? And it's tax time. Did I remember all of my deductions? How secure is my job? My wife is a Girl Scouts Leader. I volunteer at my kids' school. There's illness in my family. How is their health holding up? What about ProudConservative.com? Have I updated it? Have I written any new editorials or added any content? It goes on and on and on. I understand the busy schedule, believe me. I also understand that this is a critical election year.
The press and the liberals (really....is there much difference?) have been on a non-stop assault on President George W. Bush. They have been attacking him left and right on every little thing that they think up for the past four years. They disregard the facts. They are using that old process of "Let's throw it all up against the wall and see what sticks." Luckily, it has not been working for them as well as it has in the past. There are outlets such as bloggers and political websites and Fox News that have called them on their outlandish accusations. The politicians themselves even occasionally defend themselves or their policies. Don't believe the hype being put out by the liberals. This is a conservative nation. When the public has all the facts, they usually adopt the conservative agenda. For example, recently in the news has been the whole wire-tapping issues. Now if you listen to the liberals and the press who have been calling it "domestic spying" you would think that the N.S.A. has been spying on and listening to everyday American's phone calls. Domestic spying. Well who wouldn't be against this? So the press conducts polls and it looks as if the public is against this administration's policy. However, give these same people the facts. The fact that it is not domestic spying. The fact that it is not your everyday Americans that are having their phone calls tapped. The fact that it is people in this country that are conversing with suspected terrorists in other nations that are the people being listened to. The fact that this power is granted to the President in the Constitution and is not illegal. The poll results dramatically change over to the conservative side. People not only see nothing wrong with these actions, they expect them to occur. They want these phone calls to be listened to.
I follow what's going on. Chances are that if you are reading this, you follow what's going. The problem is that there are millions of Americans who do not follow politics closely or at all. They may hear on the news that the Bush administration has been involved in domestic spying and decide right there that the Republicans are wrong. They don't bother with following up on the story and getting the rest of the facts. Obviously, this is the intention and hope of the liberals and the press. It is our responsibility, to inform as many people as we can to the truths in these matters. When we overhear discussions at work or at school or at social gatherings where these falsehoods are being presented as fact, it is our obligation to get involved and set the record straight. Stay informed. Listen to both sides of every issue and make informed decisions on your views. Get involved with the campaigns of the politicians whose platform you believe in. Talk politics with people. Don't shy away from your political beliefs. Embrace them. Share them. There are many loud liberals willing to shout about everything. There are many more quiet conservatives. We need to be willing to debate the issues. We have the facts on our side. The liberals have lies, misrepresentations, rumors and innuendo on theirs.
Like I said at the beginning of this editorial, I understand being busy and overwhelmed by everyday concerns. We all have them. 2006 is a midterm election year. It is a very important election cycle. Will this nation stay the course? Will we actively hunt down the enemies of this nation? Will we give our intelligence agencies all the tools they need to do their job? Will we let Americans keep more of their hard-earned money? Will we continue to nominate judges that understand their role of interpretting the Constitution and not legislating from the bench? Or will we cut and run? Will we tie the hands of our military and intelligence agencies? Will we enact tax increases that hurt our economy? Will we leave it up to the liberals to nominate judges that can enact the liberal agenda from the bench? It is up to us. Yes we are busy with our own lives. We are busy with the lives of our family and loved ones. The family of your lives should come first.....mine does. However, the people that will be elected later this year will have a major effect on the lives of my family and your family. Being active in the political debates is part of putting my family first. Stay informed. Stay involved. Let's keep the liberals out of power.
